At Rawesome Vets, we believe in feeding pets a diet that aligns with their natural instincts and biology.
Here's why a Raw Meaty Bones Diet (RMBD) makes sense:
Think natural
Feed your pet what they would prey on in the wild. Feed whole carcasses when and if you can. Otherwise, provide large pieces of raw meaty bones requiring lots of ripping, tearing and crunching.
Keep it simple
Feed once a day or even less frequently. Overfeeding can lead to weight gain and inflammation, and it’s hard to maintain a lean weight when feeding large portions daily. Just like in the wild, pets don’t hunt every day. Fasting can help with weight management and boost immunity.
Bigger is better
Larger bones are safer and reduce choking risks.
Frequency
Based on our experience, most adult domestic pets benefit from being fed once a day or even less frequently e.g. intermittent fasting. Overfeeding is a common issue and a significant contributor to obesity and inflammation. In the wild, animals do not typically hunt or consume prey daily, and their bodies are adapted to intermittent feeding. Feeding large raw meaty bones every day can make it hard for your pet to stay lean and healthy, especially for smaller breeds and older pets. Incorporating regular fasting can aid in weight management and support immune function.
Our Common Suggestions
We recommend starting with a simple, practical approach. Focus on establishing a consistent routine first—once that’s in place, you can introduce variety if desired. In our experience, pet ownership is more enjoyable and sustainable when it’s kept straightforward. Simplicity leads to greater satisfaction for both pets and their owners.
